Birdwatch North Norfolk
Guided Birdwatching walks in one of the UK`s richest all year round destination for birds
Ideal for small groups or individuals and beginners welcomed
Local born trip leader with over 25 years field experience
Birdwatch North Norfolk offers the chance for small groups or individuals the chance
to explore and enjoy the wide diversity of birdlife that this small yet incredibly rich
area has become famed for with the guidance of an experienced local birdwatcher.
Walks are conducted with the client`s tastes and wishes in mind. Flexibility remains the key, with the guide able to meet at a pre arranged site and escort walks wherever the group so wishes, although his local knowledge will help in determining where would be best to visit for the greatest results. Full days, half days or summer evenings can be arranged. The aim is very much enjoyment and enhancement of knowledge for beginners, those who wish to build on their field experience and naturalists new to the area.
The main sites visited are likely to be the RSPB`s reserves at Titchwell and Snettisham, Norfolk Wildlife Trust reserves at Cley and Holme, Holkham NNR managed by Natural England, National Trust reserves such as Blakeney Point and Stiffkey-Morston marshes as well as many other smaller, lesser know sites if so wished.
The great thing about North Norfolk is that within a relatively small area (Holme to
Weybourne are only 25 miles apart) habitats such as saltmarshes, fresh water grazing
marshes, sandy beaches, coastal sand dunes, mixed woodland, open farmland, historic
parkland and ancient heaths can all be explored.
Your guide is Andrew Bloomfield, a local birdwatcher since 1980 (then aged 13) who
was born and bred on Holkham Estate. Andrew has since written his own book,
Birds of The Holkham area in 1993, as well as contributing articles to publications
such as Birding World, British Birds, Birdwatch and The Norfolk Bird Report. He is also former editor of The Norfolk Bird Club and wrote several sections in the latest Birds of Norfolk book. Having travelled to 23 countries in his quest for birds, Andrew has a wealth of field experience and his passion in life still remains being out and about in his beloved home county in search of birds and other wildlife. Working as a summer warden at Holkham allows him ample opportunity to study local population trends and bird behaviour as well as search for his own rarities.
